Johnathan Herring, 32, faces felony second-degree assault, felony domestic assault and felony terroristic threats charges after allegedly striking his unidentified girlfriend over the head with a pistol inside of a Lutheran church in Jordan, Minnesota, My Fox 9 reports.

Herring fled from the church, which also serves as a homeless shelter, after the incident in a stolen car but was apprehended late Saturday night as he hid in a dryer at a Minneapolis home, according to police.

Herring’s girlfriend had been staying at the Lutheran church shelter just for the night. The pair got into a heated altercation and Herring reportedly took out his firearm and struck the left side of his girlfriend’s head.

Reportedly, no shots were discharged from the gun and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Herring, who will be arraigned at a later date, has a rap sheet that includes domestic violence, order of protection violations, burglary, escaping a police officer and motor vehicle charges.
