eve and jill scott discuss iggy azaleas blaccent rapper responds via twitterAustralian rapper Iggy Azalea (pictured far left) just can’t seem to catch a break these days. From Snoop Lion instagramming memes mocking her appearance to Azalia Banks calling her a culture thief to Q-Tip tweeting her a long hip-hop history lesson, the blows just keep coming.

Now, rapper and actress Eve (pictured right of Azalea) and singer/actress Jill Scott (pictured) came after the artist on a recent “Sway in the Morning” interview, with both women criticizing Azalea’s tone or “blaccent,” continuing a recent trend of artists blasting her for cultural appropriation.

“She’s representing a group of girls right now as well. And yeah, I think people right now are too quick to give too many accolades to new people,” Eve said, giving her two cents. “That’s the one thing I just can’t stand. Let her do her thing. It’s not my cup of tea, but she’s representing for somebody. She’s doing her thing. What are you gonna do?”

“It’s a little challenging for me, because I come from the era that she pulled from,” Scott added. “To me, it’s a mixture of Da Brat and Eve, the way that it sounds. That’s what it sounds like to me…it [the tone of her voice] also sounds like a big bite to me.”

Eve suggested that Azalea should channel her Australian heritage in to her lyrics, rather than allegedly copying Black female emcees. “It would be dope to hear her with her swag. What are you? Who are you? What is that? You know what I’m saying? That’s the only reason why I say that.”

The Philly songstresses then segued in to a bit about appreciating Australian culture and how “[the culture is] dope, from singers to emcees to fashions.”

Azalea soon responded via Twitter, accusing the two of wanting her to stereotype her background:

Rapper T.I., who discovered Azalea and signed her to his Grand Hustle Label, says she needs to block out her detractors:

“I think she should focus on what got her here,” the Atlanta artist told TMZ in Beverly Hills last week. “That’s her music, her performing and continuing to just present her talents to the world. Its just like asking Tom Brady if he should be commenting on ‘Deflate-Gate.”
