The family of Tamir Rice, including his mother Samaria Rice, and their attorneys Benjamin Crump and Walter Madison will respond to a legal document characterizing Rice’s death as his own fault.
The press conferences Tuesday morning comes after the city of Cleveland’s attorneys wrote the words in defense to a lawsuit filed against Cleveland.
Attorneys representing the city of Cleveland responded to the lawsuit, saying Tamir Rice’s injuries were caused by his “acts” and failure to “exercise due care.”
The words were written as part of 20 affirmative defenses laid out against the claims in the suit.
Three of those defenses appear to point the finger at the 12-year-old for his own death.
Rice was shot in November by officer Timothy Loehmann outside the Cudell Recreation Center while in possession of an air-soft gun.
