*Vivica A. Fox has joined the cast of “Independence Day 2″ to reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow from the 1996 original.
Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg have already been cast in the sequel, under returning director Roland Emmerich. 20th Century Fox has set the release date for June 24, 2016 — nearly 20 years after the original.
As previously reported, “Survivor’s Remorse” star Jessie Usher was cast earlier this month in the lead role, playing the son of Will Smith’s Steven Hiller character from “Independence Day.” Smith is not expected to appear in the sequel.
Fox’s Jasmine Dubrow was a single mother who was an exotic dancer and Steven Hiller’s girlfriend in the original.
Emmerich and Fox both revealed her casting via Twitter.
