A lockdown at North Carolina Central University was lifted shortly before midnight Sunday after a shooting near campus about an hour earlier.

In an email from the school sent shortly after midnight Monday morning, NCCU officials indicated that the shooting occurred off Lawson Street near Alston Avenue. One student was injured and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries

The NCCU Police Department responded to the incident and remained on scene as of 12:45 a.m.

Campus police said that the scene was all clear just before midnight.
