Andra Day inked a partnership with Coca-Cola and McDonalds, were her picture will grace the cups of 40 million cups at McDonalds.
Interestingly enough when I posted the story on social media, more than a few made the comment “Who is Andra Day?”. I was surprised by the response. Although I’m a music fan of all types, it occurred to me that sometimes the WHO or shall I say the history or back story sometimes gets left out. I may know WHO, WHAT, WHY and WHERE but YOU may not know. So with that being said, today we are going to explore, Who is Andra Day, and why you should know her.
Cassandra Monique Batie (Andra Day) burst on to the scene the old fashion new school way, via YouTube. Her hard work produced high rankings on YouTube, which led to her record deal with Warner Bros. She was brought to our attention first on Global Grind.
Andra Day’s first album was released late summer of 2015. Her album titled “Cheers To The Fall” was produced by Raphael Saadiq (Toney! Toni! Tone!) and Andrian Gurvitz (The Body Guard Sound Track) and included established artists such as The Roots to name a few. Her first music video from this album “Forever Mine” was produced by Spike Lee. She is most known for her legendary performance of “Rise Up” during the 2015 BET awards show a song that earned her a Grammy nomination. Ms. Day is also on the soundtrack for the documentary “What Happened, Miss Simone” about the legendary Nina Simone.
And in case you missed it she was the young lady who sang “Someday At Christmas” along side the timeless Stevie Wonder for the Apple commercial.
Young, beautiful, hard working, and a God given masterpiece of talent. Do I need to say more?
Well just in case I’ll give you a visual reminder as well.
