R&B singer Fantasia Barrino, 2004 American Idol winner, is using her star power to create a bonafide Gospel hit.
By simply posting a Facebook Live video of her performance of Dennis Reed & The Gap’s “Necessary,” the melody made incredible gains on Billboard’s Gospel Digital Songs chart, jumping by 546 percent.
“It’s an incredible story,” Reed told Billboard. “I have been selling copies out of the trunk of my car for years.”
According to Nielsen Music, with the assistance of Barrino, 3,000 downloads of “Necessary,” which Reed released more than a decade ago on the album Water Walkerand digitally in 2014, have been sold.
