Defense attorneys of the accused killer Dylann Roof filed a legal challenge to the U.S. death penalty on Monday night.

Roof’s attorneys filed the motion stating that they would drop the challenge if prosecutors dropped their pursuit of the death sentence in his case.

Roof, 22, is accused of killing nine people at a historic African American church in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015. Roof, who is white, is charged with 33 federal offenses, including hate crime charges for allegedly targeting his victims on the basis of their race and religion.

Rio Military Police Beefs Up Olympic Security Presence By A Third:

The state of Rio de Janeiro will deploy nearly 14,000 security officers — about a third more than previously planned — during the coming Olympic and Paralympic Games, Military Police General Commander Edison Duarte said Monday.

Authorities plan to deploy more officers to the Barra da Tijuca area — the neighborhood where the Olympic Park, Athletes Village and most of the Olympic sporting arenas are located.
The contingent will be part of the 85,000 security officers that have been deployed to the city. In addition to Rio’s state police, members of the Brazilian Armed Forces, navy and out of state police will be on patrol throughout the city.

Warren Buffett Challenges Donald Trump To Discuss Tax Returns:

Warren Buffett challenged Donald Trump Monday to discuss their tax returns publicly.

“I’ll bring my tax return. He can bring his tax return…Just let people ask us questions about items on there,” Buffett said in his introduction of Hillary Clinton at an Omaha rally. “Nobody is going to arrest us. There are no rules against showing your tax returns.”

The Omaha billionaire said he’s willing to meet Trump any where and any time before Election Day to let the public inquire about their tax filings. Tax returns reveal a lot more about a person’s finances than financial statements do, Buffett said.

CDC Issues Historic Travel Warning Over Miami Zika Outbreak:

he Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an unprecedented travel warning Monday, advising pregnant women and their partners not to travel to a small community just north of downtown Miami, where Zika is actively circulating. This is the first time the CDC has warned people not to travel to an American neighborhood for fear of catching an infectious disease, according to agency spokesman Tom Skinner.

The warning came after 10 additional people in Florida were found to have been infected with Zika virus after being bitten by local mosquitoes, bringing the total to 14.
