CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) – Ohio’s tax-free weekend kicks off Friday, which means every store in the state is going tax-free for many clothing and back-to-school items.

“Take advantage of that. The tax savings happens one time all year,” said Better Business Bureau President Sue McConnell.

Many people do take advantage of the Sales Tax Holiday. However, McConnell said too many people go into the weekend unprepared, which can lead to overspending when the goal is to save.

“You want to still have a game plan. Do your homework. Have a list of what your child needs. Set a budget,” she said.

McConnell suggests people start making a plan before going shopping. They can do that by visiting store websites, checking store ads and apps. If people are shopping online, they should make sure the website they’re visiting is legitimate.
