Early Voting Update: Battlegrounds Tight With 30 Million Ballots Cast:

Democrats are building an early voting lead in North Carolina and Nevada, but Republicans maintain an edge in Florida and Ohio, according to a CNN analysis.

With five days to go, registered Republicans also lead Democrats in early voting in Arizona, while Democrats are also ahead in Colorado and Iowa.

More than 30 million votes have been cast already across 38 states with early voting. And with five days to go, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are encouraging their supporters to hit the polls early. So far, about 7.4 million registered Democrats and about 6.4 million Republicans have done just that.’

Squirrel Sparks Halloween Voting Outage In Ohio:

Reports of voter intimidation, rigged elections and worse have put Democrats and Republicans on alert for just about any culprit, save the one bushy-tailed bandit that stalled an Ohio county’s voting on Halloween.

Voters in Miami County, Ohio were forced to use backup paper ballots after a squirrel stalled early voting there Monday. Details were sparse, but the Dayton Daily News reported that a squirrel was blamed for a power failure that stretched from 9:15 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. that same day.
“We lost power and we were forced to vote by paper,” Eric Morgan, deputy director of the Miami County Board of Elections, told CNN.
A call to the county’s maintenance chief for more details was not immediately returned Thursday. Morgan did not know offhand whether the critter survived the power outage.

THE MOTIVATION OF MELVIN GORDON:

His nonchalance is striking.

Melvin Gordon III hardly blinks when asked about the day his father was whisked away.

“I didn’t have time to be depressed,” Gordon says. “I had to be the man of the house and take care of my mom. I wanted to be in a position where I could take care of both of them so he doesn’t have to be back in there.”

Back in there, as in: back in prison.

Dad was a cocaine dealer.

We’re not talking baggie handoffs on a corner, either. Dad moved a lotof product. He didn’t work for you. You worked for him. Dad was the brains behind the operation. The maestro. He was, as his wife puts it, “ghetto rich.” Then he got caught. Then the man known to everyone as “Big Bo” was sentenced to 10 years.

When “Loving” director Jeff Nichols was sent a documentary about Richard and Mildred Loving, it upset him that he hadn’t known their story.

“I grew up in Arkansas,” he told CNN. “I went to Little Rock Central High, site of the desegregation crisis in 1957. I graduated in ’97 and I didn’t know about this. Why didn’t I know about this? This should be a foundational part of our American history.”
His film will likely help more people know the Lovings.
“Loving,” which opens this week, tells the story of the couple whose interracial marriage in 1958 led to a landmark Supreme Court case and the abolition of anti-marriage laws based on race.
The Chicago Cubs celebrate after defeating the Cleveland Indians in Game 7 of the World Series on Thursday, November 3. The Cubs won 8-7 in 10 innings to win the series 4-3. Jason Heyward’s Speech During Rain Delay Sparks Cubs To World Series Win:

Aroldis Chapman just lost the lead, and the Chicago Cubs were in big trouble.

It was the bottom of the eighth inning and, with their closer on the mound, the Cubs saw their three-run lead against the Cleveland Indians evaporate courtesy of a Brandon Guyer RBI double and a two-run homer from Rajai Davis.
Then, at the end of the ninth, it started raining hard, halting play.
The momentum was with Cleveland. Chapman was in tears. Something had to be done.
