Cleveland City Council will officially vote next Monday on renovations at Quicken Loans Arena.

Monday night, the Council voted in favor of the deal, but did not secure enough “yes” votes to enact it as an emergency measure.

Next week, supporters will bring it back for a third reading and final vote. Last month, Cuyahoga County Council approved the measure by an 8-3 vote.

The $140 million dollar project is scheduled to begin this summer. It will add more public space to the arena and enclose it in a glass envelope. The hope is that the renovations will relieve concourse bottleneck problems, provide more room for visitors to gather before and after events, and help promote more street and neighborhood activity.

The Cavs, Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland would split the cost.
