The Canton School District is mourning the loss of one of their own Sunday.
14-year-old Slyvia McGhee was an 8th grader at Compton Learning Center’s Connections Program. She previously attended STEAMM Academy @ Hartford, where she had many friends according to the district.
Slyvia was found fatally shot in the heard near 11th and Bieyl Court SW Saturday morning.
She also attended Lehman Middle School, where she and Tabitha McCarthy became friends.
“I would never expect such a good heart person to be found dead,” McCarthy said. “[She] was always funny, smiling, nothing ever dragged her down not one thing.”
She says Sylvia wanted to be a basketball player, but says her true skill was being a great friend.
“I lost a couple of family members a year or two ago she was right there beside me, always talking to me, making sure I was okay [and] checking up on me daily.”
