Fugitives who are growing weary of hiding from the law can now seek refuge at Mt. Zion Church in Oakwood.

Dr. Larry L. Macon of Mt. Zion Church, at 25500 Broadway Ave., is participating in the Fugitive Safe Surrender program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 22-25.

The program allows nonviolent offenders to talk to an attorney and a judge about their case. Most people who turn themselves in can expect to go home the same day.

Offenders must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and must not have a violent past.

People wanted for serious felonies and violent crimes are still encouraged to surrender.

Offenders who want to surrender do not have to meet any religious guidelines to participate.
