Cleveland broadcasting legend Wayne Dawson stepped away from his anchor duties at FOX 8 in November to continue his fight against a surprising health diagnosis.
Dawson first spoke publicly about his health in April. Now, he’s in his second round of a battle against oral cancer, a diagnosis that has shocked him from the beginning.
“The crazy thing is my surgeon said this type of cancer happens in people who chew tobacco, or heavy smokers, or heavy drinkers and I’m none of those,” Dawson said in a previous statement.
But today, Dawson offers supporters an optimistic update.
“Here’s the good news, I will be back, there’s no doubt about it,” said Dawson in today’s post on Instagram. “The Lord has already put it on my heart that I will be back. I don’t know if it will be one month or two, but I will be back.”
From FOX 8:
In April, Dawson first told FOX 8 News viewers about his health situation and a lengthy 9-hour surgery to have the cancerous mass removed from the cheek of his mouth. At the time, it was believed the surgery was successful.
“The crazy thing is my surgeon said this type of cancer happens in people who chew tobacco, or heavy smokers, or heavy drinkers and I’m none of those,” Dawson previously explained.
Wayne Dawson has been with FOX 8 for over 40 years. The Kent State University and Cuyahoga Community College graduate is a legend in Northeast Ohio and a dear friend of Radio-One’s Cleveland market. We all offer our deepest prayers and most heartfelt well wishes and he continues his battle against oral cancer.
And we hope you do the same!
