CLEVELAND – Cleveland police will be on the hunt on New Year’s Eve with several checkpoints searching for drunken drivers.

At least 17 officers and supervisors will be spread out across the city. The Breath Alcohol Testing van or BAT will also be out and mobile.

“It’s going to be a safe event,” said Harold Pretel, Commander of Homeland Services.

Several law enforcement agencies will be keeping a close eye on the Cleveland Rocks New Year’s event with cameras located across Public Square. They will be watching from the Emergency Operation Center.

There are several items that will not be allowed in the event including, coolers, bottles, cans, glasses, blankets, chairs, umbrellas, purses, laser lights, and video recording equipment. A full list is available on the city’s website at www.clecityhall.com.
