Amber Stanley, a 17-year-old college-bound honor student, was shot dead in her sleep inside of her Prince George’s County, Md., home on Wednesday night, WTTG Fox 5 reports.
There were others inside of the home, but they all fled during the attack. The shooter is still at large. Police are still investigating what exactly lead up Stanley’s murder. It is a horrifying tragedy that has many of teen’s neighbors shaken.
Several told Fox News 5 that she was a model young lady.
“She was just a friendly young lady,” Willie Lump says about his young neighbor.
“She was a quiet girl,” Shirley Robinson says. “Always focused on doing the right thing.”
Neighbors say there has been an increase in traffic lately on the Chartsey Street where Stanley lived with her mother, sister and a foster child.
“Lots of young people, sitting in cars,” says neighbor Tyrone Patterson. “That’s unusual for this neighborhood. It’s always been quiet. We need to be vigilant to make sure everyone is safe.”
Here are a few details behind the the events that lead to Stanley’s death, according to Fox News 5:
On Tuesday, detectives went to the family’s home for a trouble call. They aren’t releasing a lot of details about it, but sources say they are actively trying to determine if there is any connection to Stanley’s slaying.
Investigators say a gunman kicked in the front door at the home just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, climbed the stairs and shot her multiple times in her bed.
