Dr. Oz is wrapping up his ultimate detox cleanse week, with a variety of ways to overhaul your body. The cardiothoracic surgeon turned talk show host is revealing the secret to jumpstarting weight loss in time for summer.

Dr. Oz says he understands the struggle many northeast Ohioans have this time of year, trying to shed their winter weight.

“I know very well the plight of Cleveland in the winter. I was born in Cleveland. But, the reality is, you’ve gotta lose the weight before swimsuit season,” said Dr. Oz.

The latest research from Harvard University shows you can lose so much weight in a short period of time. There are two ways to do it:

First, focus on eating a lot of protein early in the day. Researchers say, if you have most of your calories early in the day, you can burn them off by the evening. A protein shake in the morning, is one way to achieve this. Have protein-rich meals early in the day. Taper it off later in the day.

Secondly, aim to get eight hours of sleep at night. Researchers say, if you sleep enough, you won’t crave carbohydrates.

“If Clevelanders want to lose five pounds in a week, eat lots of protein during the first half of their day and get plenty of sleep,” said Dr. Oz.
