CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A plea deal decision is imminent in the Ariel Castro case.

Castro’s attorneys refused to give details of a plea deal that will be discussed in court on Friday.

As we have reported repeatedly, negotiations have been ongoing since Castro’s first court appearance. His attorneys said from the start that some of the charges against him are irrefutable and that they were open to a deal.

A plea deal would spare Castro’s victims from the trauma of having to testify.  It has been widely speculated that a goal of his attorneys was to spare him a death sentence, however it is unknown if that is part of the deal.

Castro has pleaded not guilty to 977 charges, including aggravated murder. The charge stems from the death of an unborn child of one of the victims. That victim claims Castro forced her to lose multiple babies after she got pregnant.

Castro is accused of holding Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus captive in his Seymour Avenue house for years before they were rescued on May 6.
