At least half of the building collapsed as crews continued battling the fire.
Hazardous Materials Complicate Fire Response
Toledo Fire Chief Allison Armstrong said hazardous materials inside the facility created additional challenges for firefighters.
Crews encountered chemicals, runoff and tanks that exploded during the fire. Officials said the facility had tanks containing mineral spirits, a petroleum-based solvent.
State environmental officials responded to monitor potential impacts from the fire. Authorities urged nearby residents who could see or smell smoke to stay indoors, close their windows and doors and avoid the area.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also launched an investigation into the explosions.
Officials have not determined what caused the explosions.
