Below is an introduction to you, our readers, from the newest addition to our Newsone team, Farai Chideya.

Newsone Readers:

There’s no question this is one of the challenging times in America’s history. Our neighborhoods, jobs, and families are all facing challenges many of us didn’t see coming ten years ago.

My job is to get out there and help people tell their stories to the world. Right now I’m traveling around America talking to people at risk of losing their homes; ones who still have faith in the American dream, even if they’re unemployed; and people who have given up hope that anyone’s going to help them with problems from health to the environment. We’re talking about big issues on a local level.

There’s a saying that “all politics is local.” I believe that deeply, and that’s why I love reporting on communities around America.

I do other things — every now and then I might pop off on pop and hip hop culture — but right now I’m deep in the political thickets. I look forward to sharing what I learn with you, and learning FROM you. So drop me a line and let me know what’s going on in your neighborhood. Maybe we can get a story going and learn a little bit more about what’s making us tick and ticking us off.

Below is an interview I conducted with Charlie Crist. Hope you enjoy.

Pop and Politics with Farai Chideya is a series of three radio specials about the 2010 midterm elections. These specials will be heard on public radio stations around the country in late October and early November.
