YOUNGSTOWN, OH (WOIO / WKBN) – Youngstown police have arrested two suspects in connection to an off-campus shooting where a YSU student was killed, and 11 others were injured.

25 year-old YSU senior, Jamail Johnson, was killed in the shootings.  A 17 year-old girl was shot in the head and is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.  Two others are still hospitalized.  8 victims have been treated and released.

During a press conference late Sunday afternoon, Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes announced two suspects have been arrested.   Both are males in their early twenties.  Right now they are both charged with aggravated murder, shooting into a habitat, and 11 felonious assault charges.  Names of the suspects have not been released, pending further interviews with witnesses.  Hughes says the suspects are not YSU students.

“We are holding back on the names of these individuals as long as we can to finish up the interview process and gather as much information as we possibly can,” said Chief Hughes.  “There are no other individuals of interest we’re looking at.  There are no other suspects and we’re going to continue the investigation from that point.”

Capt. Rod Foley with the Youngstown Police Department said the party at 55 Indiana Ave. started at about 2:30 a.m.  He said it was a spill over from another fraternity party that began at the Metroplex in Liberty.

“People were texting and facebooking each other and it kind of grew.  It wasn’t a planned party, it was kind of a spontaneous party…it grew to about 40 or 50 people,” Capt. Foley said.
