CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Some heavy-hitting politics make take place in this great city on the lake.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald have announced their intention to attract and secure a national nominating convention to Cleveland for 2016.

On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, FitzGerald will introduce legislation to the Cuyahoga County Council that would authorize $2.5 million to support Cleveland’s bids using job creation and tourism as driving forces for approval.

He said, “Hosting could contribute as much as $200 million towards our local economy. I am looking forward to presenting this legislation.”

The Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee have both invited.
