The upcoming winter storm has the Ohio Department of Transportation, or ODOT, staffing up its snow and plow truck drivers.

“Our crews are going to be doing a lot of plowing because that’s a lot of inches of snow,” said Amanda McFarland, public information officer for ODOT. “They’re also going to be doing a lot of treating of roads because once they get wet like that, we need to continue treating them so they don’t freeze.”

About 80 crews started working 12-hour shifts around the clock Tuesday in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga Counties. ODOT said they will continue to work day and night shifts until the storm passes.

“I’m going to do everything I can to get the roads in nice shape like this for the next crews,” said John Zaremba, an ODOT truck driver.

Zaremba began his 12-hour shift Wednesday at 10 am. He plows and treats a 28 mile stretch of highway 77.
