Robin Roberts has been 100 percent vulnerable with the public about her condition – MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease.

Last week the morning news show host underwent a bone marrow transplant, with her colleagues, clad in surgical masks, by her side witnessing the process.

“Good Morning America” camera crews were there to catch every moment, sure to pass the message of hope and need.

But some observers feel that ABC has stepped into the exploitation zone since there’s been so much coverage on Robin, says the Associated Press.

“It’s a fine line between educating the audience and bringing them up to date, and crossing over and turning that into a ratings booster or an audience grabber,” said Arthur Caplan, director of medical ethics at the New York University Langone Medical Center.

However, since the coverage, Robin’s story has likely encouraged thousands to sign up for the blood and bone marrow registry to help save lives.

According to the Associated Press, 44,000 people have signed up since June, when she first revealed her illness.
