Safe Surrender 4_1401307923764_5337182_ver1.0_640_480

The Summit County Fugitive Safe Surrender program will return to an Akron church for the first time since 2009.

On Wednesday, representatives from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office signed an agreement with 18 Summit County partners to hold the event June 25-28 at The House of the Lord church on Diagonal Road.

While it’s not an amnesty program, Fugitive Safe Surrender does give people with outstanding misdemeanor and low-level felony warrants a chance to resolve those issues in a non-threatening church setting.

Associate Pastor Herman Matherson said it’s an opportunity for people to make amends with dignity.

“Perfect is not a requirement, but what do you do when you make mistake? Where do you go when you make a mistake? Do you admit to the mistake? Do you take responsibility for it? Are you going to be accountable for that mistake?” Matherson said.
