Christian music had a great 2018 with many artists such as Lauren Daigle, MercyMe and Cory Asbury expanding their reach to mainstream audiences. The new year is already showing promise as well as some other prominent musicians gear up for the release of their albums and EPs.
Daigle’s Look Up Child debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart following its release in September, beating out popular secular musicians such as Drake, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B that week.
Asbury’s “Reckless Love” was heard by millions of others as pop superstar Justin Bieber covered the worship song on social media pages. MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine” made it back on the charts and radio after the film of the same name brought in $17.1 million domestically during its opening weekend, and over $83 million total, superseding expectations.
Here’s a list of five Christian and Gospel artists who are releasing new music at the top of the new year.
Passion, Follow You Anywhere (January 4)
Passion — band made up of Kristian Stanfill, Brett Younker and Melodie Malone — released its Follow You Anywhere album during the sold-out Passion 2019 conference at the top of the new year.
The 10-track album features collaborations with Crowder and Sean Curran. The 40,000 young adults who gathered in Atlanta, Dallas and Washington, D.C. for the conference were among the first to hear the new collection. Follow You Anywhere was the first time the band recorded an album at the conference’s home base, Passion City Church in Atlanta
Switchfoot, Native Tongue (January 18)
Grammy Award-winning rock band Switchfoot is preparing for the release of its next album, Native Tongue, on Jan. 18.
Through the album, the band hopes to promote love as a dialogue in times of division. Marking Switchfoot’s 11th studio album, the 14 songs were recorded primarily at Melody League Studios in the band’s hometown of San Diego, California. The diverse collection features the band’s anthemic title-track and a few of its staple reflective songs.
In a recent interview with The Christian Post, the band’s frontman, Jon Foreman, explained the theme of the album.
Bethel Music, Victory (January 25)
Popular worship band Bethel from Redding, California, had a series of battles they faced in 2018 which birthed their new album, Victory.
From raging wildfires to adoption and health battles, the band lives to tell their stories of God’s miracles in 2019.
