Elyria police report that an Elyria school’s principal was attacked by a student’s mother with mace. The mother then left the scene but later turned herself in. She now faces a felony charge.

FOX 8 initially reported the story.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning. According to the FOX 8 report, the principal at Hamilton Elementary School was attempting to defuse an argument between the student’s mother and the school’s assistant principal. The student’s mother was attempting to enter the building through the wrong door. Once the principal arrived, the argument escalated, and eventually the mom sprayed him with mace that was attached to her key ring.

The police report says the principal was “clearly… dealing with the effects” of being maced.

Officers reviewed surveillance video and say Houze also appears to threaten the assistant principal, who is 7 months pregnant, with mace. The assistant principal was not harmed.

Elyria police report that the woman, who initially fled the scene, later turned herself in. She now faces a felony charge of assaulting a school official.
